JETHRO FIBIGER ENCOUNTERS CARBONISED NOTATION PAD FOR FIRST TIME
2011-12-03
At the SAJCC held in PE, all participants were given the standard carbonised notation pads to use - for many, the first time they had encountered them. For others, the first time they had encountered carbonised anything. Jethro, playing U10 fell into the latter group.

After the first round his dad obviously enquired as to how it had gone and how he was feeling.

Jethro was quite happy with everything except the notation. He understood fully that one copy had to get submitted with the match results to the arbiters and one copy to his team captain - but just felt that having to right everything twice took up too much time - particulary if you made an error on one of them. Double checking each copy to make sure they were the same made him lose concentration.

What he was doing was writing out everything twice - once on the front page and again on the carbonised page, not realising that the second copy was automatic!
